    Mogul is a new rank introduced in the latest update. It requires a premium account, and it is restricted to 12 people at any one time. So there will be some dynamic rotation for membership of this rank.
    It allows for some additional equipment, e.g. the key I mentioned. This allows instant movement to any Union controlled planet (against quite some high costs).

    At the moment I think Redwing has the highest rank (Chief) if I recall correctly.

    I don't believe in ranking without skilling... that makes you a wartime candy (not in the good sense)

    Marquis seems to be more concerned with killing everything that has the ability to be killed.

    Keela is the ranker in the OPC Smile


    However, i still say none of that new Union crap is worth it's cost Sad...
    I'm still upset about how the Feds got the Nova and emps and Uni got worthless junk.

    Currently no one is near the higher ranks, so building the equipment is currently not an issue (though the Chiefs 6x conventional shield is available in Astarte (small marketing message)). But when we do get these ranks, the production needs to be coordinated. The key takes 160(!) SB turns to be produced, this is 20 whole days of full production, so coordination will be needed.

    but sinc e the key is a good money maker as of now we can build a lot of them and then buy and sell them for profit lol

    I went a bit over the top Very Happy It takes 120 rounds instead of 160, but still this is 15 days.

    We can start producing them, but we can't sell them Very Happy. And my guess is that they will be heavily sponsored to keep the prices low. So just producing them and trying to sell them to random passing by ships will not be very likely.
    And they consume a huge amount of resources (e.g. only 1200 tons of electronics). A well, at least this will take care of some overproduction Very Happy

    and I disagree, I'd say uni got the best deal here. that fed ship is fairly useless cos of it's extreme size... missiles will never miss, It's sole purpose seems to be MO busting.. but then against one of those just have tons of MMTs and a MM and it's Swiss cheese, the emp got new guns.. yeah.. and a new missile that's fairly useless against uni with ECCM, most just designed to take down novas.. and the gun are good but nothing special... the uni on the other hand got some more nice goodies for all levels.. as well as the SK.. which ok cost a fortune but could lead to some nice new war tactics... and new flux cap.. and new wornhole cost redux.. very nice for traders...

    Personally I'd say uni got the upper hand... I mean imagine a nova vs scorp... same skills.. nova has a load more armor... scorp has more shields and the nova has bigger guns... but nova's missiles are fairly useless against the SECM... most of them miss, and all th scorp missiles aided with the ECCM hit... also more scorp shots will hit due to the nova's size... although that balances with the novas bigger guns... however the missiles tip the balance.... also imagine trying to cloak a nova... what you gonna do cover it in a sheet? it's f***ing huge, you'll be lucky to cloak in energy let along space... where as the cloaking device and fairly nice cloak skills... and who know where the scorp is?

    that fed ship is fairly useless cos of it's extreme size... missiles will never miss, It's sole purpose seems to be MO busting.. but then against one of those just have tons of MMTs and a MM and it's Swiss cheese

    Ever seen a Doomstar in battle? It's hit by 85% of whatever is fired at it!! The Nova will be hit by 95% size 100 - size 250 is not that much of a difference.. But than the Nova got 990 armor!! (~150% more then the best union ship and it's not even considering the armor types and levels enhancements)
    The Doomstar is a fearsome ship mainly because it is hard to kill.. It can be hit by a fleet and fly through... I seen package admirals survive 5 ship ambushes because of the Doomie's huge armor, now imagine a Nova. It'll be hit by anything fired at it alright, but will it be enough to kill it???? Probably not.
    Also consider that once you buy a Nova, it's yours forever... Heck you can even go emp with a Nova.

    What the Emps got is junk!
    The missile - Way too expensive to justify risks... int 3? What if enemy send in hawks or even better VDCs?? low chance that thing can hit a VDC with an ECM.
    Also that missile can only be gotten if you currently are one of the 12 highest ranks, once demoted - Forget it!
    The emp guns? Well just go through possible ship designs.. long story short they are useless.

    And the Uni.. .
    All we got is some Utils. They are all sensitive EQ which means we either have to spend a lot of effort and credits on drones, or re-buy the items.
    Also these items are pure crap. 500k to use a 4M piece of EQ, which gives instant access to another Union planet... How many times is that useful??? if at all?
    The modulators and rest of stuff? give me a break! It's nice but 'nice' doesn't counter Novas, in fact these are just useless toys.

    I will be planning to construct a key in near future (after the building of a BBB is finished and I have a bit more electronics Smile )

    Regardless of our current opinions on the new equipment: we have to deal with what we've been handed.

    The key:
    - is sensitive
    - is expensive
    - takes long to build
    - consumes huge resources

    The usage and construction has the following properties:
    So basically not every player owned SB will be able to easily construct or fund it.
    In a war situation, death can cause fast detoriation of the equipment requiring fast replacement.
    There will be a renewal of Moguls as the ranks are shifting.

    So there is a potential demand. Also from a Union perspective, building a steady backup stock of keys is relevant (in case of war).

    Another scenario, mentioned on the pardus forum, is that keys could be bought and immediately sold for profit, as the construction cost at a PSB is drastically lower than the official sell-price. If it is more than 50% cheaper, then direct selling off the equipment by a Mogul is potential profit.
    I haven't done the math yet with the OPC prices, on the cost of a key, but I read it was potentially interesting.

    The key scrap cost can be actually lower than it's construction cost, yes..
    Two options:
    1) It will be re-priced to prevent that.
    2) It will be concidered abuse and anyone cought doing/allowing that, will be banned.

    So don't make plans along that line.. and better wait for an actual request before you build something that expensive.

    The key is useless. In war in peace.. It is an expensive toy that doesn't make much difference, anyone who is thinking otherwise simply wasn't in a war at ranks where it meters.
    That is why i also call a 2.5M 2.5k damage missile useless...
    You don't spend millions on something "Just in case".. You don't use a 3-4M piece of EQ for 500k usage fee to save a day's worth (max) of travel. It is not going to be a "required" item in war or at any other time. The key is an expensive toy with no real benefit of use.

    The absolute ultimate benefit the key can possibly offer is going to pardus union contingent at the price of an x-hole jump. And still that jump is not worth it's cost because it's a day's travel away, you would need to be in a very strange scenario to actually justify that usage.

    Sorry to bump up this very old thread...
    But I just remembered that the Empire have a lot of their guns can easily be produced under 50% of the normal price. Building to immediately scrap them (just for profit), is something which is quite common (at least I saw that in Orion).
    And those weapons require:
    -very little materials
    - not a too high rank to buy and scrap them.

    So from that perspective, a Union based "scrappable" item should not be too unlogical
